My best friend Cortney is a super teacher, a super baker, and a super mom.  I remember the story she told me about her trip to a bakery one morning with her then-three-year-old daughter, Star.  It hadn’t been on the agenda for the day, but they decided to pay a visit to this bakery because Star was able to read the sign on the door. “Open”.

It had been one of the sight words she learned on Meet The Sight Words.  I was proud of Star and also intrigued about this early literacy program.  “Tell me more!” I begged.

Meet The Sight Words is an engaging learning series from Preschool Prep Company that helps littlebits internalize words that don’t follow basic decoding words, better known as sight words.  Recognition of these words contributes to a child’s reading fluency and comprehension.  Using catchy animations and lots of repetition, Meet The Sight Words helps young readers get to this level in a way that is fun and easy.

Littlebit Holds Case for Meet The Sight Words

Understandably, Meet The Sight Words puts readers on a path to a solid foundation in reading.  Because of her early exposure to words through this literacy program and because of the time her mom put into creating a literate environment at home, Star is not only excelling at reading, but she’s enjoying each journey she takes through a book.

Clearly, Meet The Sight Words is a must-have in your early literacy toolkit.  Get yours here, and read on for ways to implement it at home with your littlebit(s).

Ways To Use Meet The Sight Words

Pick a few words to focus on. There are three levels of Meet The Sight Words, and each contains 15 words.  Be aware of your littlebit’s interest level and attention span, and be careful to not overwhelm your child with too many words at a time.  Expedite your littlebit’s learning by posting the focus sight words in places around the house.

Participate with your littlebit.  Your participation can boost confidence and engagement.  Say the words together, and make it fun!  Use accents and silly sounds.  Use the words in sentences.  Air trace the words together.  Make the words come alive.

Let littlebits decorate/create their own illustrations of the sight words.  This is another way to make the words come alive.  Additionally, littlebits will be encouraged to take ownership of the words.  Color or paint the words. Draw visual representations of the words.  If you’re really creative, turn it into a Pinterest craft – break out the buttons, pasta, puff balls, and everything else in your arts and crafts kit to create sight word masterpieces.

Have it on and let it seep in.  Because Meet The Sight Words is not a plot-based story that a viewer needs to pay attention to from beginning to end, you can have this on while you and your little readers are doing a craft, cleaning the house, or sharing a meal.  Hearing the words repeated and glancing occasionally at the screen will still help your child to learn the words.

Point out the sight words when you see them out.  Reinforcement is key.  Help your littlebits internalize the sight words they learn on Meet The Sight Words by pointing them out when you see them.  Point them out in books you read together.  Point them out on street signs.  Find them in shops and restaurants, at the doctor’s office, or on other TV shows you may watch.  Your littlebit will learn that sight words are necessary and sight words are everywhere.
